This blog post is all about the Monsters Inc land that is coming to Hollywood Studios.
Mike and Sulley are coming to town!
That’s right, humans will be able to enter the world of Monsters, Inc. when it is added to the south side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new land will include the coaster we’ve all dreamed of – a suspended ride recreating the door vault scene – plus dining and shopping and a whole new theater show.
To make way for the monsters, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and more of their friends will be moving right along to Sunset Boulevard! But there’s more to the story: The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival!
We’re very said to see Muppet Vision 3D and Muppet Courtyard go, but we hope that Disney will give The Muppets their due in their new location. This will be the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets. We’re promised laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!
In the meantime, there’s still time left to catch a super-stretch limo to the Forum to enjoy Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and catch Muppet*Vision 3D again before their final curtain calls. The last day to experience Muppet*Vision 3D is June 7. The attraction will close permanently on June 8 to make way for the new Monsters, Inc. themed land. Currently there is no closing date announced for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
Disney is having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.
As for the new Monstropolis (Monsters Inc. themed land), we do have some exciting info about a new attraction.
First announced at last year’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Imagineers are hard at work bringing the world of Pixar Animation Studios’ Monsters, Inc. to life — and that includes its monster inhabitants, James P. Sullivan, Mike Wazowski, and more. While getting to walk through the streets of Monstropolis is exciting enough, the land will include a signature attraction where guests embark on a thrilling roller coaster ride through the Monsters, Inc. door vault.
“Imagineers have been itching to turn that moment into an attraction ever since we saw it for the first time,” Hundgen teased.
While many details about the attraction are still locked up in a laugh canister, the Imagineering team is ready to reveal the load area for the attraction. The upcoming door ride will feature the first-ever suspended coaster at a Disney Park, and the first-ever vertical lift. Get ready to scream — not out of fright, but fun.
Showing off a new animatic of the attraction, guests will board the vehicle before being hoisted into the air (just like in the movie!) to zoom into the door vault. It’s going to be “an experience that’s as memorable and fun as the film,” Hundgen continued.
“I can tell you that everyone at Pixar is excited about how this is coming together,” Docter told the crowd. “It really is like a dream come true for us.”
